I opened our local literary magazine this afternoon and discovered that I had 4 haikus published in it. I submitted almost 100 and they used 4. Cool.

Once the words were said,
Then taken back, regrets born
Best sex never had.

My weekend passes;
Friends' faces blur. Clock--no friend--
Sweeps the short days by.

Change is good, my friend
Man never sits idle.
Live and change, or die.

Bottoms up! Man's joy!!
Beer Bottles, Rum, Three Hurrahs!
Sailors, Bottoms up!

In poetry class we read a poem about oddly colored tigers.
Aunt Jennifer's Tigers
-- Adrienne Rich

Aunt Jennifer's tigers prance across a screen,
Bright topaz denizens of a world of green.
They do not fear the men beneath the tree;
They pace in sleek chivalric certainty.

Aunt Jennifer's fingers fluttering through her wool
Find even the ivory needle hard to pull.
The massive weight of Uncle's wedding band
Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer's hand.

When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie
Still ringed with ordeals she was mastered by.
The tigers in the panel that she made
Will go on prancing, proud and unafraid.

Okay, a bit dark, but I lke the imagary of the tigers. The instructor commented that this poem had similarities to this Wallace Stevens poem.

Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock
-- Wallace Stevens.

The houses are haunted
By white night-gowns.
None are green,
Or purple with green rings,
Or green with yellow rings,
Or yellow with blue rings.
None of them are strange,
With socks of lace
And beaded ceintures.
People are not going
To dream of baboons and periwinkles.
Only, here and there, an old sailor,
Drunk and asleep in his boots,
Catches tigers
In red weather.

I like both poems a lot. The second poem reminds me a lot of you, Kenny; the only sailor that I know.
